Netherlands legend Ruud Gullit says Joshua Zirkzee made a mistake by joining Manchester United instead of AC Milan.

    The 23-year-old joined Old Trafford from Bologna for £36.5m in the summer and has struggled to find the net since making his debut against Fulham, with his form generally lackluster.

    Gullit believes that the decision to join the Red Devils was a mistake for Sergse and that if he had decided to go to the Red and Black Devils, everything would have been better.

    “Zirkzee would have done better if he had chosen to play for Milan instead of in England with Manchester United,” Gullit told Gazzetta dello Sport.

    “He knows Serie A very well and staying there for another two or three seasons will be beneficial for his growth at a top club like AC Milan.”

    “He is now at a club with a lot of problems and not conducive to his development. I hope he can turn things around after a period of adjustment, which is inevitable.”

Milan were indeed close to signing the player in the summer until Kia Joorabchian’s agent demands made sure that the move never went through and United swooped in.

It is obviously an initial settling in period for Zirkzee, who has shown many glimpses of his link-up play at United, but he has also shown that his finishing needs to be better. But improvement may just be a matter of time.
